Pensando Systems At Cloud Field Day 7
By: Christopher Ratcliffe
We were very fortunate to recently have the opportunity to present at Cloud Field Day 7. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, Cloud Field Days bring together key thought leaders in the enterprise cloud space to discuss pressing issues and technology advancements. The fact that they do this with key companies and cloud providers makes for some great conversation. Cloud Field Days have been operating since 2016 emerging organically from Tech Field Days.
This event was unusual in that although normally hosted at the presenting company offices, ongoing issues related to COVID-19 resulted in this session being run virtually. The combination of some of the Pensando Leadership team presenting to a group of 12 delegates who asked questions throughout (as well as injecting questions from twitter) resulted in some really good feedback. We’ve added links to the individual presentations below.
Overall both the delegates and the Pensando team seemed to enjoy the presentations and it’s definitely something we’ll do again – we’re already scheduled to participate in the upcoming Storage Field Day!
Founded in 2017, Pensando Systems is led by Silicon Valley’s legendary “MPLS” team — Mario Mazzola, Prem Jain, Luca Cafiero, and Soni Jiandani — who have an unmatched track record of disruptive innovation having already built 8 $Bn/Year businesses across storage, switching, routing, wireless, voice/video/data, & software-defined networking. The company is backed by investors that include Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Goldman Sachs and JC2 Ventures. In this session Pensando CEO Prem Jain covers the Pensando Systems origin story and business overview including key employees, funding and target markets.
Pensando Systems was founded on the belief that there has to be a better way to address the complex infrastructure issues facing IT departments today. We have taken a ground up approach to build a Distributed Services Platform (DSP) that gives cloud providers the ability to build industry-leading cloud services and gives enterprises the unique ability to drive cloud-like agility, security and operational simplicity across their entire infrastructure with unmatched scale and performance. In this session, Soni Jiandani provides an overview of the key components and business value of the Pensando Distributed Services Platform.
The foundation of the Pensando platform is a custom, programmable processor optimized to execute a software stack delivering cloud, compute, networking, storage and security services wherever data is located, all managed via a distributed Policy and Services Manager. The result delivers cloud-like capabilities and scalability with operational simplicity. In this session Francis Matus gives an architectural overview of the components, capabilities and future direction of the platform.
In this session Vipin Jain demonstates the core capabilies of the Pensando Policy & Services Manager(PSM). The PSM enables seamless distribution of all infrastructure services policies across the entire DSP-enabled infrastructure. In addition it handles lifecycle management such as deploying in-service software upgrades, delivers always-on telemetry, deep end-to-end observability, and operational simplicity.
Pensando Systems GTM strategy, key use cases and customer successes. Including examples from the public cloud providers/hyperscaler, enterprise and Service Provider markets. Customers/partners discussed include Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Goldman Sachs, Oracle Cloud and NetApp.
